Archbishop Nichols statement on Haiti
The Archbishop of Westminster, the Most Rev Vincent Nichols, issued the following statement today:
"The news from Haiti is so distressing. I respond readily to the direct, unequivocal appeal for prayer for all whose lives have been lost or devastated in this earthquake. I am sure all Catholics here will respond in the same way. It is what we do."
"I am grateful to all who react quickly with practical aid, not least our own Government. This will be a long term aid and reconstruction effort. I urge people to find ways of giving practical expression, through aid charities and agencies, including CAFOD (Catholic Agency for Overseas Development), to the deep compassion they feel for the people of Haiti."
