Staff at Catholic publishing house CathCom in Essex, were breathing a sigh of relief today, after a trio of burglars dressed in boiler suits broke into the building overnight - but then left empty handed.

Security cameras showed them opening the front door of the building, getting into the offices and disconnecting computers ready to take away - when one man comes across across a copy of last year's Papal visit souvenir newspaper - with a large image of Pope Benedict - and the group appear to talk together and then leave.

CathCom's director, Nick Layton, said: "Perhaps the picture of Pope Benedict made them feel guilty. I was surprised by the news of the break in but very glad about the unusual outcome. If they had taken our computers we have a good back-up system so we would have managed - but it would have been inconvenient."

CathCom currently works with 15 publications around the country and is taking on more soon. The company also provides IT systems and websites to Dioceses, Catholic organisations and charities in the UK and overseas.
