Dutch engineer builds replica Noah's Ark
A Dutch construction engineer has launched a full-scale replica of Noah's Ark, based on his interpretation of measurements listed in the Book of Genesis.
Johan Hubers spent more than three years on the project. The massive vessel, moored in Dordrecht has two cinemas and a restaurant, as well as a huge menagerie of life-size plastic animals and can welcome up to 3,000 visitors a day.
Mr Hubers decided to build the Ark after having a dream in which he saw much of the Netherlands submerged under a great flood. In 2003 he built a half size version which he cruised along the canals of Holland and opened to the public. Hubers saved the proceeds from those trips to invest in his full scale 450 foot long Ark. He had hoped to bring the Ark to London in time for the Olympics, but the project went four months over schedule. (See: www.indcatholicnews.com/news.php?viewStory=18339)
Hubers says the project is totally unrelated to this year's 'Doomsday' Mayan calender prophesies. "Some people have asked me about that" he said. "But I told them that was not why I have built the Ark."
