Holy Land: Christian community under threat of eviction appeals for prayers

Beit Jala

Beit Jala

A Christian Palestinian writes: For more than a year, and regardless of the weather conditions, we have been conducting a religious service at Cremisan, Beit Jala, every Friday. The aim is to pray for peace and justice, against oppression and attempts to take over more of our land through illegal enterprises, including building the Wall and settlements.

Within a month, we'll have a resolution from one of the occupation courts. So far, the case has been covered by major international media as well as by diplomats (including a mention in the US State Department Freedom of Worship Report) and church organizations. Now, we need more prayers and political work than ever. I kindly invite you to join our prayers every Friday at 3.30pm at Cremisan, Beit Jala (between Al Najjar home and the Nun's kindergarten).

Israeli intentions to build the Wall at Cremisan will dramatically change the situation of Bethlehem. It will enable Israel to link Har Gilo with Gilo settlements, build the new Giv'at Yael Settlement and expand Gilo towards Beit Jala. It will contribute to the bantustanization of Bethlehem. It is one of the last steps to be taken before Bethlehem and Jerusalem are fully disconnected. 58 Palestinian families from Beit Jala will lose their land, as well as 450 children attending the kindergarten ran by Salesian sisters will be affected; the Holy Spirit procession conducted every year from Cremisan towards the Annunciation Church in Beit Jala wont be conducted anymore...

The prayers are conducted by Fr Ibrahim Shomali, the parish priest of the Annunciation Church in Beit Jala.

If you can't join the Christians in Beit Jala - please remember them in your prayers wherever you are.
