Wales: church marks Lent with art and music festival

The tiny church of St Michael’s, Discoed, in Powys will be marking Lent again this year with art and music events to raise fund for St Michael's Hospice in Hereford.

The opening concert 'The Joy of Lent', will take place on Friday 8 February at 7.30pm. The programme includes Bach Chorale Preludes and Vocal Arias with oboe obbligato. Elisabeth Priday (soprano), Graham Trew (baritone), Ruth Watson (oboes) and David Ponsford (organ).

An exhibition around the walls of the church entitled: 'The Last Supper, a Sequence of Paintings' will open to the public on Saturday, 9 February at 6.30pm. It will include paintings, plus Tania Mosse who will produce a sculpture and Charles MacCarthy an installation. The art historian, Frances Spalding has written the critique of the work in the catalogue.

Last year's Stations of the Cross exhibition was critically acclaimed and raised £4250 for charity. This year's exhibition runs from 9 February to 1 April.
