London: evening to remember Blessed Franz Jägerstätter
Pax Christi are hosting an evening open to all, to remember the life of Blessed Franz Jägerstätter - 70 years on, this Friday, 18 October at the Centre for Youth Ministry in Euston.
The evening will include learning, celebration and prayer to mark the 70th anniversary of the martyrdom of Blessed Franz Jägerstätter with guest speaker: Severin Renoldner from Pax Christi Austria, researcher and writer on Franz and Head of Education and Culture, Diocese of Linz, Austria (Franz's home diocese).
Franz Jägerstätter was beheaded in Germany in August 1943 because of his refusal to undertake military service in Hitler's army. His journey to this decision was a hard one - apart from his family few supported him. Yet his faith and reflection on what was happening in Austria under national socialism supported his conscientious objection. In 2007 he was recognised as martyr and beatified by the Catholic Church.
"I am convinced that it is still best that I speak the truth even if it costs me my life…"
(Franz writing from prison, Berlin 1943)
The evening takes place on Friday 18 October 7- 9.30 at the Centre for Youth Ministry, 20 Phoenix Road, London NW1 1TA. Please bring food to share.
