Coventry: Vigil for Gaza
A silent vigil for Peace in Palestine and Israel was held on the steps of Coventry Cathedral Ruins on Friday evening. The International prayer for peace was said at intervals as the names of the 100 Palestine men, women and children killed in Gaza were read aloud.
The vigil was organised by Pax Christi and Coventry RC Justice and Peace Group, Friends of Sabeel, Jews for Justice for Palestine, the Presentation Sisters, Kairos Britain and supported by members of Coventry Friends of Palestine and members of groups from Leamington and Birmingham.
At the end of the vigil participants were asked to light a candle for peace at 6pm each evening during the conflict and urged to write to their MPs asking them to call for a ceasefire on both sides and to condemn the illegal collective punishment by Israel of the Palestinians in Gaza.
Peace vigils were also held in many other cities around the country on Friday. More are planned this week. Check ICN listings and news for details.
