London: Summer art workshops in Wapping

Beginners and experienced artists are invited to take part in Art Workshops at St Patrick’s Old School, Wapping next week from Wednesday to Friday 13-15 August, from 10.30am - 4.30pm.

You are welcome to come and work from your own inspiration, and there will be no teaching as such but the organisers hope to make a few optional inputs/suggestions of what to do.

The days will be lead by Sister Sheila Gosney rjm. There will be a still life set up and brief demonstration on using different techniques eg wax candle, oil pastel, water colour pencils, sponging, scraping, and a water colour pencil with sandpaper over a water colour surface.

Participants are asked to bring a copy of the day's paper or magazine and base a picture on something in the paper. Some may go out of doors to sketch and then continue on something back in the room, or do a still life using a limited palette.

Please bring your own materials but there are also some that you can use.

There will be teas and coffee beforehand from 10am and maybe a prayer or poem. Please come promptly so everyone can set up and start together – or let people know if you are coming late/only for the morning or afternoon

There are various cafes locally for lunch or you can bring your own sandwiches. The centre has kitchen facilities for teas and coffees and with a fridge.

Cost: Suggested donation £8.50 - £10 a day, or what you can afford.

Please book your place so we can have an idea of numbers. Contact: Alice Robertson: 07714200505/ alicerobertson@hotmail.com

St Patrick's Studios, in Dundee St, Wapping E1W 2PH, is home to several working artists.
