Manchester: Book Fair at St Paul's

Staff and pupils at Saint Paul’s Catholic High School in Wythenshawe, Manchester, enjoyed the Book Fair which was held at the school with the aim of encouraging and developing the pupils’ enjoyment of reading.

There were over 200 titles to choose from with award winning books ranging from chillers and thrillers to war stories, drama and comedy. There was a wide range of brand new titles from the best authors, especially those focusing on teen fiction and non-fiction.

Ms Irena Savova, Librarian, from Saint Paul’s explained: “The Book Fair was designed to encourage the much desired independent reading skills and to help pupils to develop a life-long love of reading. The titles were carefully chosen to reflect all tastes and abilities. It is very important to instill in young people a need and desire to read. Research shows that teenagers who choose to pick up a book for pleasure are more likely to succeed in life.”

“We must encourage our children to read for pleasure therefore it is important that we give our pupils the sort of books that interest them; books that match the pupils’ own interests spark their enthusiasm for reading and books,” commented Mrs Fiona Minshall, Head Teacher at Saint Paul’s. “The Book Fair was a great way to do this; it was wonderful reading event that everyone enjoyed.”
