Call for student filmmakers

Student filmmakers are being invited to submit entries for the Insight Student Filmmaker Award 2015, as part of the Insight Film Festival. The theme, 'The Truth is Out There. Have Faith' is intended to give young filmmakers the opportunity to showcase their productions with a faith theme and potentially to secure an internship in Hollywood.

The Insight Film Festival was launched in 2007. Last year, it teamed up with the Jesuits in Britain who were able to offer an internship with Loyola Productions in Hollywood to provide the Student Filmmaker Award. This is an unique opportunity for students engaged in filmmaking to explore, critique and reflect on what faith means in the modern world.

A former competition winner of the Insight Film Festival was shortlisted for an Oscar this year. Mark Gill's short film Fire and Clay won the 'Best in Show' award at the first Insight Film Festival in 2007: he entered the film jointly with a fellow filmmaker student when they were both studying film at the University of Central Lancashire. His short film called The Voorman Problem was nominated for an Oscar in 2014 for Best Short Film (Live Action).

Festival Director, Abdul-Rehman Malik said: "With the theme of 'The Truth is Out There. Have Faith', this year's Insight Student Filmmaker Award challenges the UK's best student filmmakers to turn their creativity and their passion to exploring what faith and belief means to us today."

All applicants are invited to participate in at least two master classes with award-winning filmmakers with the winner receiving a six-week internship at a Hollywood studio and an opportunity to work on commercial and independent projects.

Malik said: "The Insight Film Festival celebrates, exhibits and encourages filmmakers throughout the world to make films, which explore faith. Since 2007, Insight has created meaningful platforms where films about faith can be screened and critically engaged with. Based in the United Kingdom, Insight is a truly global festival and one of the very few that is dedicated to the exploration of faith in the modern world. Not a week goes by where we aren't confronted by questions about what faith, religion and belief mean today," he adds.

"Let's engage the debate through the most powerful of media - film!"
