Manchester school stages danceathon for CAFOD

Staff and pupils from Saint Paul's High School in Wythenshawe, Manchester, joined together to take part in the school's first-ever Danceathon to raise money for CAFOD, to support their work around the world bringing disaster relief, tackling poverty, encouraging development and fighting for global justice.

The whole of Year 7 and their form tutors took part in the dance extravaganza which involved plenty of non-stop dancing to raise money for the charity.

Mrs Angie Holland, Assistant Progress Leader Year 7, said: "We had several budding Beyoncés joined by many other dance fans and saw some serious dance moves. It was great fun and all the pupils joined in with the dancing."

"The pupils did a fantastic job with their fundraising and I was impressed with their enthusiasm," said Ms Diane Keary, Progress Leader Year 7. "Our hope is that, through their exposure to a range of activities and causes, our pupils will develop a sense of the type and scale of need that exists in modern life."

"A huge thank you to everyone who donned their dancing shoes and took part in the Saint Paul's danceathon," commented Mrs Fiona Minshall, Head Teacher at Saint Paul's.

"This proved to be a fun way of raising money for CAFOD, a very worthy charity, and also of showcasing the dance talent that is in our school. We encourage our pupils to consider others in need and to help them through giving of both their time and effort. The organising of fundraising events is therefore a key part of the school's ethos."
