Search is on for 'Mum of the Year'

Sons and daughters, up and down the country, have been invited to nominate their mothers for the title 'Mum of the Year' in the annual competition organised by Britain's largest Christian broadcaster - Premier Christian Radio.

Listeners to Premier are being directed to the station's website where they are invited to explain, in no more than 200 words, why their special mums has gone above and beyond the call of duty and deserves the 'Mum of the Year' accolade. Nominations will be accepted through to Thursday, February 18th 2016.

"We are looking for mums who have achieved something extraordinary over the past 12 months," says Premier's Programme Director, Dave Rose. "We don't want to be too specific about judging criteria but words like 'selfless' and 'inspired' and phrases like 'survived and thrived' and 'beaten the odds' are being used to describe the sort of women we are looking for."

The UK's first woman Bishop, Libby Lane, is a member of Premier's 'Mum of the Year' judging panel for 2016 along with last year's winner of the award, Brenda Stanley from Suffolk. Other judges include Jo Naughton, Margaret Mizen, and Katherine Hill.

"We've chosen a panel of judges who know what it's like to be a mum and who have the Christian sensibilities to understand the motivations behind the way in which mothers react in extraordinary circumstances," says Dave.

Prizes include a £2,000, one week holiday in Samos for two, courtesy of Richmond Holidays.
