London: Charity Day at St Benedict's School

Gervase House at St Benedict's School in Ealing, west London, celebrated the Feast Day of its patron, Blessed George Gervase, last Friday. Fundraising on the day was in support of the Multiple Sclerosis Trust for whom a total of just over £700 was raised. Dom Andrew Hughes, Chaplain of Gervase, celebrated the House Mass in the Abbey Church at midday and, in his sermon, exhorted the pupils and staff to "aspire to be saints for today."

Charity activities started with the traditional cake sale at morning break. A splendid and tasty array of cakes, biscuits, gateaux and home-made treats rapidly disappeared once lessons finished and a mass of pupils and staff descended on the Cloisters Hall. At lunchtime more funds were raised through a nail painting parlour and table tennis.

The MS Trust is a small UK charity dedicated to making life better for people living with multiple sclerosis. They provide information to everyone affected by MS and support the health professionals who work with them.

Mr Arratoon, Housemaster of Gervase, said: "Many thanks to the Gervase House captains and representatives who organised the day and to all pupils, and parents for their generosity."
