ACTA Leeds launches new website

A new ACTA (A Call to Action) Leeds website was launched last Saturday during an event at Leeds Trinity University titled 'Papal Vision - Parish Reality'. Speakers Ellen Teague of Columban JPIC and Dr Paul Kelly of the National Justice and Peace Network Environment Group gave presentations on the vision which Pope Francis set out in Evangelii Gaudium (2013) and Laudato Si' (2015), and then Andrew Thomson and Denise Mason looked at ACTA and Parish Practice in the Diocese of Leeds.

"We are not just a protest group, but a progressive movement for change" said Andrew Thomson.

Guided reflection was led by Sr Pauline Darby.

Since ACTA was launched in 2012 there has been a new Pope and Leeds has a new Bishop. The website says: "it is vital that we act in response to the increasing calls in the Church to play our part as clergy and laity in developing a 'culture of dialogue'". The website aims to provide information and a range of resources which can be downloaded to help supporters develop this culture of dialogue in parishes and groups.

At Saturday's event, around 40 people prayed particularly for all those affected by the recent flooding (as in the parish of the Good Shepherd, Mytholmroyd). Also, for all those, including ACTA supporters, involved in the consultations and discussions affecting the Halifax and Keighley section of its deanery - "that clergy and laity may be inspired by the vision of the Church outlined by Pope Francis in Evangelii Gaudium and in Laudato Si'".
