London: Tales from the West Bank: Life Under Occupation
An evening of 'Tales from the West Bank: Life Under Occupation' with Hannah Griffiths and Madeleine McGivern, will take place at Travelling Through Bookshop and Cafe, 131 Lower Marsh, Waterloo, SE1 7AE on Wednesday, 18 May from 6.30-8.30. Entrance is free.
Hannah Griffiths has recently returned from her role as human rights monitor in Hebron with the Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel. An essential task was providing protection through her presence at a school twice a day. Such presence is vital in Hebron, where the close proximity of Israeli settlers and Palestinians results in discrimination, harassment and sometimes violence.
Hannah was in occupied Palestine between September and December 2015 when there were growing tensions; Hebron was the location of a third of all Palestinian deaths in the region during this period.
Hannah will be sharing stories of the people she met, including Israeli and Palestinian peace activists, and experiences she had whilst witnessing life under occupation.
Joining Hannah will be Madeleine McGivern, who was an Ecumenical Accompanier in 2011. Her photography exhibition 'Sage Tea and Sunshine: An Alternative View Of Palestine' is currently on display at Travelling Through... and some of the photographs exhibited reflect those experiences.
The café and culture hub has a licence from 6pm for the purchase of wine, beer and cider. You can also purchase soft drinks, tea, coffee & hot chocolate, cakes and light savoury snacks / crisps etc.
