Syria: Church leaders in Aleppo pray together for peace

The beginning of 2017 yesterday, the World Day for Peace, was marked in Aleppo with a joint prayer service attended by leaders of all the denominations in the devastated city.

Patriarch Mar Ignatios Aphrem II, Primate of the Syrian Orthodox Church, presided over the prayer for peace in Syria at the Syriac Orthodox cathedral dedicated to St Ephrem. Besides Bishops and priests of the Syrian Orthodox Church, the services was also attended by Maronite Bishop Joseph Tobji, Chaldean Bishop Antoine Audo and Reverend Ibrahim Nseir, of the Arab Evangelical Church.

The Patriarch, the Bishops and all those present prayed together for peace in Syria and an end to violence. They also prayed for the return of the two metropolitan bishops of Aleppo who disappeared in April 2013, Greek Orthodox Boulos Yazigi and Syrian Orthodox Mar Gregorios Yohanna Ibrahim.
