A Bradford-born, award-winning film composer who penned the score for Johnny Depp's latest film, London Fields has become the newest ambassador for CAFOD.

Benson Taylor, whose music has featured in TV shows the Big Bang Theory, Orange is the New Black and Two and a Half Men is currently supporting the charity's Big Fish Lent Appeal.

A lifelong committed Catholic, the married father-of-two, Benson Taylor, has a long history of working to improve the lives of some of the world's poorest people. He was previously involved with the UN and the World Food programme, raising awareness for the Zero hunger campaign. Benson has also travelled with a number of other charities to countries such as Kenya, Cambodia and Tanzania to combat poverty.

Benson who regularly attends Leeds Cathedral, was one of the founding committee members of homeless charity, Emmaus UK in Bradford.

The accomplished composer who divides his time between UK and USA, has numerous accolades to his name. In December 2016, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Bradford for his services to music and charity and is one of only a handful of selected artists - including Bob Marley, David Bowie and U2- to be published by Fairwood Music.

Benson said: "I've supported the work of CAFOD for as long as I can remember. What has always stood out for me is how CAFOD strides towards its goals whilst maintaining dignity for those most needy. This is no more evident than during Lent - one of the most sacred times of the year. As a Catholic, the social teachings of the Church are something I reflect on daily and I'm inspired to join forces with the incredible and like-minded team at CAFOD. I'm excited to join CAFOD on this journey as their new ambassador."

Jen Corlew, CAFOD's director of communications, said: "Benson will be a fantastic asset to CAFOD. He has an impressive track record of working on poverty issues both home and abroad - motivated by his passionate Catholic faith. He also brings a tremendous creative energy which we are hoping to harness so that CAFOD to continue to raise awareness and ultimately, improve the lives of the world's poorest people. We are pleased to welcome Benson on board."
