Our readings this weekend remind us that we are chosen, called to serve the Lord.
Jesus said to his disciples, 'The harvest is rich but the labourers are few,' after he saw that the crowds 'were harassed and dejected, like sheep without a shepherd.' Jesus then called the apostles by name and gave them the authority over unclean spirits and to heal the sick and raise the dead. We too have been called by name; given gifts and talents to serve the Lord. The graces we've been given may not be as dramatic as raising the dead, yet are equally powerful in that we can help change the quality of life of those around us and beyond. As Jesus looked at the crowds then, today it's quite easy to see the suffering and need... Our Action Prayer is to ask Christ to help us bring more labours to the harvest through our daily thoughts, words and deeds.

A Prayer for the Middle East

Holy Presence,
Source of Life beyond every name, every nation, every border-
We hold the Middle East in sacred light.

The mothers and fathers.
The children waking to sirens.
The elders who have seen too many wars.
The young who deserve futures filled with possibility, not fear.

Wrap every trembling heart in protection.
Guard the innocent.
Shield the vulnerable.
Comfort those who have lost homes, loved ones, or hope.

May wisdom rise in leaders.
May restraint override retaliation.
May courage mean choosing peace over pride.
May the ancient lands-so rich with history, faith, and devotion-
remember their deeper story of shared humanity.

For the Muslim families, the Jewish families, the Christian families-
for every tribe, every language, every lineage-
we affirm the truth that no life is expendable.

No child is an enemy.
No mother's tears are political.
Where there is hatred, breathe understanding.
Where there is vengeance, plant compassion.
Where there is despair, ignite a fierce and tender hope.

Strengthen aid workers.
Guide peacemakers.
Soften hardened hearts.
Interrupt violence before it spreads.

May humanity awaken.
May love prove stronger than fear.
May peace-real, lasting, just peace-
take root in the soil of this sacred region.

And may every soul there feel, even now,
that they are not forgotten…we are connected
