Oldham: St Herbert's Primary releases Christmas single

A primary school in Oldham, Greater Manchester, has recorded a Christmas single to continue the theme of Mercy as we enter the Advent period. Their Christmas single has now been shared thousands of times around the world with listeners as far and wide as America, Italy and Japan.

The track - titled Christmas is Coming - was recorded by pupils at St Herbert's RC Primary School, Chadderton, in a bid to raise money for an ongoing appeal. The school caters for a high number of youngsters with additional needs and all money raised will help fund a sensory room with special lighting, music and objects, which will help those children, and people in the wider community, to develop and flourish.

The appeal, led by Friends of St Herbert's School, Chadderton, has raised more than £20,000 in 11 months, it is hoped that this single will bring them closer to the final amount needed.

Songwriter Nigel Milligan, who works at the school said: "The pupils have all really enjoyed getting involved in the project. Each year the school organises something for the parents for Christmas, such as personalised Christmas cards. But this year we wanted to do something a bit different to celebrate the Year of Mercy and came up with the idea of doing a song. We asked the pupils for their ideas and they wanted to focus on helping others as the Catholic Church's Year of Mercy comes to a close."

"It might not make it to number one but we hope it will have a big impact on our fundraising for the sensory room."

CDs also featuring the children singing Jingle Bells and Silent Night are available for £5 from the school.

The single is available on Amazon & Google Play for 99p, and iTunes for 79p. All Purchase options along with more details can be found on their website: www.stherberts.oldham.sch.uk/
