Iraq: Church saddened by destruction of al Nuri Mosque in Mosul

The Chaldean Church has expressed sadness at the destruction of the 12th century al Nuri Mosque in Mosul, renowned for its leaning minaret. The Chaldean Patriarchate, also voices sadness for the victims of the bombings, and for all the people who continue to suffer from thirst, hunger and lack of medicine in Iraq.
In an official statement the Patriarchate expressed the hope that, in the face of today's suffering, the hearts of the Iraqis will lead them to the desire to build together peaceful and fruitful coexistence.
Iraqi troops have accused Sunni jihadists of attacking the famous mosque, while militants of the self-proclaimed Islamic State (Daesh) has replied that the sacred building was destroyed in a US bombing raid.
