Polish 60th anniversary pilgrimage to Hednesford
Coventry Polish Parish Priest. Father Doctor Romuald Szczodrowski, led the celebrations as hundreds of Polish Pilgrims from as far as Bolton and Bury, gathered at the Shrine and Church of Our Lady of Lourdes in Hednesford on Sunday.
The occasion marked the 60th time that Poles have gathered there for the Annual Polish Pilgrimage.of the Archdiocese of Birmingham.
This year, the Mass, which was held inside the church due to the exceptionally strong winds, was said for the Beatification of Pope John Paul II. After the Mass, a procession took place outside around the Shrine.
Speaking afterwards, Chief Celebrant Father Romuald Szczodrowski said: "Where there are Poles, there is always a place where they worship Our Lady."
"I spent eight years in Zambia and Poles there built a special grotto in honour of Our Lady where they gather and pray. I was so glad to be with the people in Hednesford by the grotto because such a place gives new strength and ideas to our daily lives."
