Religious to lobby Parliament over climate change

Members of religious orders will lobby Parliament on Wednesday 23 April, calling on MPs and ministers to "kick the carbon habit" and to strengthen the UK Climate Change Bill. In 2005, hundreds of religious men and women gathered at Westminster to lobby their MPs to make poverty history. The success of that event, and attention it attracted, has encouraged them to raise their voices again. Sr Loretta Madigan from JPIC Links and the Faithful Companions of Jesus will be attending the lobby. She said: "As religious women and men, we are called to remind rich governments, such as ours, of their responsibility for tackling climate change because of Its impact on the world's poorest people. Climate change threatens to undo decades of development work and I am attending this lobby because I believe it's vital that we speak up now before it's too late." "You don't need to be an expert to your lobby your MP" added Vikki Mills, CAFOD's parliamentary officer. "We're hoping that many religious men and women will join this lobby to show the government how important it is to pass a strong Climate Change Bill."
