Two new priests ordained in Aberdeen

Two men are being ordained priests of the Roman Catholic Church at St Mary's Cathedral in Aberdeen by Bishop Peter Moran this evening at 6.30 pm.

The new priests, who could be asked to serve throughout the north east and the Highlands and northern isles of Scotland, are Father Colin Morrison Davies, from Caol near Fort William and Father Anil Gonsalves, from India.

Fr Davies, 44, came to Aberdeen to train as a nurse shortly after he became a Catholic in 1991. He completed his course of studies at Scotus College in Glasgow and is being assigned to St Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Inverness as an Assistant Priest.

Fr Gonsalves was born in a village called Binaga-Karwar, in India, and was a member of the parish of St Anne's in Binaga. With a background in science and in marketing, he worked for IFB, a Home Appliance Company and Cadila Pharmaceuticals, before starting training for the priesthood. He has just completed his course of studies at the Pontifical Scots College in Rome where he specialised in Spirituality. Fr Gonsalves has been appointed Assistant Priest at the Cathedral of St Mary of the Assumption in Aberdeen.

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Aberdeen has seventy Churches and Mass Centres spread through out the Eastern Highlands and the North East of Scotland. It also has churches in Orkney and Shetland.
