The diocese of Derry has been plunged into mourning following the death of Fr Adrian Porter on Thursday. Fr Adrian, who came from Donegal was just 28, and one of the youngest priests in Derry. He was killed when his Nissan Primera car crashed into a van on the Culmore Road near the border with Donegal at about 5pm on Thursday evening. He was on his way to say Mass and visit patients at Altnagelvin hospital when the tragedy occurred. His body had to be cut from the wreckage. The driver of the van has been hospitalised.

Fr Adrian was based at Glendermott in Waterside, Derry. He was ordained to the priesthood in July 1999. Fr Michael McCaughey who worked with Fr Adrian said he was stunned by the news. He told the Irish News: "Adrian was full of life and just a great young man. He was an example of life and a great fellow to be with."
