Schola Cantorum, London Oratory Junior Choir in new Harry Potter film
The long-awaited Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part 1) is released next Friday, 19 November. The soundtrack features both the Schola Cantorum of the Cardinal Vaughan School and the London Oratory Junior Choir, directed by Charles Cole. The choirs have had a very busy few months. In September 2010 they took part in a performance of Monteverdi's Vespers at the BBC Proms conducted by Sir John Eliot Gardiner. There were two subsequent performances at the Sheldonian, Oxford and Durham Cathedral.
The Schola Cantorum will be giving a performance of Monteverdi's Vespers at St James's, Spanish Place W1 on Wednesday 24 November at 7.30pm. The Choir will be accompanied by His Majesty's Sagbutts and Cornets and the solos will be sung by boys from the Schola and by tenors Nicholas Mulroy and Peter Davoren. Tickets can be purchased at the door or online.
Members of the Schola will be singing carols during afternoon tea at the Dorchester Hotel on the following weekends 20/21, 27/28 November, 11/12, 18/19 December. Afternoon Tea is served in the Promenade with two sittings each afternoon. Early booking is essential and reservations can be made by telephoning 020 7629 8888.
The Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School's annual Carol Service by candlelight will be held at Our Lady of Victories Church, Kensington, on Thursday 16 December at 7.30pm. Admission is free with a retiring collection.
The London Oratory Carol Service will be on Wednesday 22 December 2010 at 7.30pm.
Upcoming engagements in 2011 and 2012 include revivals of The Royal Ballet productions of The Nutcracker and The Dream f at Covent Garden.
