CBS producing new Missal in alternative formats for the blind
Catholic Blind Services is rushing to produce the forthcoming new English edition of the Roman Missal in alternative formats for blind and partially-sighted people.
“The Liturgy Office of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of England and Wales released the complete texts to CBS on 23 June and work is now underway to produce the various alternative formats,” said CBS Director, Seán O'Donnell. “We are under a great deal of pressure to get everything ready for September. There are no paid staff, so everything is done voluntarily and without any funding. If we had been given the texts earlier we would not be under so much pressure as our other work has to continue as well.”
Large print formats should be ready in September and an audio guide to the changes will also be available. CBS is in talks with RNIB to produce some of the texts in Braille and it is hoped these texts will be available as soon as possible. A complete text of the Missal will be available but produced in accordance with the liturgical seasons. The size and weight being a contributing factor in its design.
CBS is also producing special learning cards with the new responses that can be used at home, in children's liturgy groups and in schools.
Donations towards this special project will be gratefully received and can be sent to CBS c/o Our Lady and St Edward's Presbytery, Westgate, Driffield, East Yorkshire YO25 6TD
