Website offers countdown to 'the real Hallowe'en'
With Hallowe’en rapidly becoming one of the most popular festivals of the year, the Damaris Trust, a Christian charity has launched a website to explain the origins of the day.
Hallowe’en is the eve of All Hallows’ Day (or All Saints’ Day) - and traditionally a time of focusing on heroes and heroines of the Christian faith.
The resources include a video countdown calendar, which churches and individuals can republish on their website or blog, as well as audio podcasts and an introductory trailer.
Nick Pollard, co-founder of the Damaris Trust said: "Hallowe’en is one of the fastest growing festivals in our culture, and that means the church should respond to it, not hide away and pretend it doesn’t exist. Our Countdown Calendar looks at the true meaning of Hallowe’en and challenges people to think about the difference that God, rather than spooks and spells, has made and goes on making in the lives of his people."
The video countdown calendar includes contributions from major Christian speakers and thinkers, including: Rob Parsons, Bekah Legg, Pete Greig, Ruth Valerio, James Lawrence, Fran Beckett and Alistair Burt
