Abbot of Worth announces retirement

Dom Kevin Taggart
The Rt Rev Dom Kevin Taggart OSB has announced his decision to resign, as Abbot of Worth Abbey in Sussex, from the 2 June this year. His general communication follows below:
When I was elected Abbot in 2010, I realised that, because of my age, it was improbable that I would complete the eight-year office.
Recently, I have been able to discuss my position with the Abbot President during his official four-yearly Visitation of our monastery; and both he and I are of the opinion that now would be an appropriate time for me to step down, and allow the Community to consider a younger person for the role of Abbot. The Abbot President has agreed that my retirement will take place from Sunday, 2 june 2013,
The election of a new Abbot will take place in early August. I shall of course give my full support to the new Abbot and hope to serve the Worth Community in any way that I can.
Between 2 June and the time of the election of the new Abbot, the Prior, Fr Luke, acts as the Superior of the Abbey.
The Monastic Community will use the coming three months for prayerful reflection in preparation for the Abbatial election in August, and we ask for the support of your prayers
at this important time.
Fr Kevin
