Booking now: Solidarity with the poor weekend
A weekend devoted to solidarity with the poor in the UK - examining how this is a result of government austerity measures - will take place from 28 February - 2 March (Friday - Sunday) at Boar's Hill Carmelite Priory in Oxfordshire.
The event has been organised by Catholic People's Week (CPW) in collaboration with the National Board of Catholic Women's poverty project, which has run events around the country, highlighting the effects of current policies on women and families.
Following on the Dora Turbin lecture given by Ann Pettifor a few years ago, the weekend look at how economic policy has made our society less equal and how we can alter this. Michael McLoughlin will lead an easy-to-follow session - no previous financial or economic knowledge required.
The weekend will be considering the words of Pope Francis in the context of Catholic Social Teaching. Alison Gelder, Chief Executive of Housing Justice, will be looking at the increasing problems faced by families in keeping a roof over their heads.
Chair: Jackie McLoughlin. Organiser: Jackie McLoughlin; Chaplain: Fr Denis Keating OP
