Heythrop Lent Lecture Series to focus on Eastern Catholic Tradition

The Lent 2014 Lecture Series at the Centre for Eastern Christianity, Heythrop College, will focus on the Eastern Catholic Tradition Today, considering perspectives ranging from Albania to Antioch and Greece to Ukraine.

The speaker for the first two lectures in the series will be Revd Dr Robin Gibbons, Research Fellow at the Centre for Eastern Christianity at Heythrop, whose topics will be 'The Eastern Greek Catholic Tradition and Heritage' (Wednesday 22 January) and 'The Eastern Greek Catholic Tradition: Divine Worship and Sacramental practice' (29 January).

The next two lectures in the 2014 Lent Series will be given by Anthony O'Mahony of the Centre for Eastern Christianity. His topics will be 'The Greek-Italian Tradition: The Exarchic Monastery of Grottaferrata' (Wednesday 5 February) and 'The Italian-Albanian Church in modern Italy: Eastern Catholic Ecclesiology Today' (Wednesday 12 February).

The focus will then turn to Ukraine as Rt Revd Hlib Lonchyna, Eparchial Bishop of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of the Holy Family of London, considers 'Language, identity and inculturation in the Ukrainian Catholic Church' on Wednesday, 19 February.

'Towards a Theology of Diaspora: An Eastern Catholic Perspective' will be the topic on 26 February, when the Lent lecture at the Centre of Eastern Christianity will be delivered by Revd Dr James Siemens, Director of the Theotokos Institute for Catholic and honorary research fellow at Cardiff University.

The series will conclude with the return on Wednesday 5 March of Anthony O'Mahony, whose lecture will be entitled 'Between Antioch and Rome: The Melkite Church and Ecumenism since Vatican II'.

All lectures in the Centre for Eastern Christianity's Lent 2014 Lecture Series will start at 3pm and take place at Heythrop College, University of London, Kensington Square, London W8 5HN. All are welcome.
