Launch of College4Life at Ealing Abbey
As monks our vocation is primarily to live the community life and to celebrate the divine liturgy. These indeed do reach out to the margins of society, but we also reach out in other ways; through hospitality to people and to new ideas and indeed to changes in society. We have been planning College for Life as a further way of reaching out to the margins of society in the coming years.
College for Life offers courses that focus on practical skills, vocation, the meaning of life and new forms of spiritual expression in a world of growing diversity. We want to support people in living with 'all others' on this planet, to respect and to work with our differences as well as our similarities.
Courses that will be offered include a Masters in Group Facilitation Conflict Resolution and Community Building, and Exploring the World of New Monasticism - Going to the Margins of Society
The new venture was launched by Rt Rev Martin Shipperlee OSB, Abbot of Ealing Abbey on 1 September at 74 Castlebar Road, one of the Abbey properties. Among those present were Fr James Leachman OSB, Principal for College for Life, Jaap Westerbos, co-director of the Naos-Institute and Director for College for Life and Bernd Leygraf, co-director of the Naos-Institute and Associate director for College for Life. Supporting the college's efforts is an international advisory board consisting of 15 well-respected academics in their own discipline, from Africa, Asia, North America and Europe. Among them are Dr Josefina Manabat, San Beda University, Manila, Philippines and Dr Pachomius Okojie OSB, Ewu, Nigeria.
