Ann Widdecombe presents film on St Francis Leprosy Guild
Ann Widdecombe presents this short documentary film on the work of the St Francis Leprosy Guild, who celebrate their 120th anniversary this year.
While many might think leprosy is a disease of the past - in fact there a quarter of a million new cases each year. If promptly treated, leprosy can be cured - but it the disease progresses the consequences are devastating for the patient and their family.
This film show the work of the Guild which gives ongoing support for Leprosy Centres throughout the world, especially in in Asia and Africa. The Guild gives assistance to families and dependents of those affected by leprosy, and funds for specific projects that significantly enhance the life of the leprosy sufferers (for example: drilling for water, weather-proof housing, improvements in hygiene, food or clothing).
