Bishop John Arnold welcomes Paris climate deal
Bishop John Arnold of Salford Diocese, who is the Bishops' Conference spokesman on environment issues, has welcomed the Paris Climate deal agreed at the weekend.
Bishop Arnold said: "The Paris Conference delivered more than many dared to expect, but probably not quite as much as some would have hoped.
"Nonetheless, it was ground-breaking, with nearly 200 nations agreeing a fairly radical statement. Of course, the agreement has now to be realised in concrete actions and will need monitoring every step of the way but at least there can be no doubt that we are moving in the right direction. We really do seem to be beginning to 'care for our common home' and Pope Francis warmly welcomed the final statement."
