Cumbria: Faith and Work events at Boarbank Hall

Several of our courses at Boarbank Hall aim to support people in living out their faith in their working lives.
Our weekend Called to Work in October (5th-8th, or you can come just for a short weekend, 5th-7th) brings together an exciting group of speakers. Fr Dermot Tredget is a retired priest of the Diocese of Cardiff, who has for many years led retreats on the topic of faith and work, and in particular the links between work and monastic practice. James Atkins founded and is now Managing Director of Vertis Environmental Finance, based in Budapest. He has also initiated of several environmental charities. Helen Bailey is an expert in the people aspects of change in business, and works with mindfulness and spirituality, including with the English Jesuits. Martin Lawson, who is based in Cumbria and has a background in business and currently works at the intersection of mission, social impact and business.
We also have a couple of health-related events coming up. Hope in Health is an annual Advent weekend open to anyone interested, and this year (7th-9th November) the theme will be 'Telling the Truth'. The main speaker will be Dr Jude Raper is a Consultant Doctor in Palliative Medicine who cares for adults who have terminal illnesses. She works at the Myton Hospice in Warwick as well as in the community. Sr Margaret Atkins, a member of the Boarbank Community of Augustinian Sisters with a long-standing interest in the ethics of healthcare, will also speak.
From 7th-12th January we run our annual Health and Salvation week for professionals in healthcare and allied disciplines. The theme will be 'Communication'. A rich line-up of speakers includes Professor Kathryn Mannix, who recently retired as a Palliative Care Consultant in Newcastle and is the author of the current bestseller With the End in Mind; Mrs Carrie Almeida, a speech and language therapist in the NHS, who has also worked in India, France and Switzerland; Professor Gerrard Armitage, Emeritus Professor at the Faculty of Health, University of Bradford; Dr Karen Groves, Medical and Education Director at Queenscourt Hospice in Southport; and Fr Christopher Dawson, Chancellor of the Diocese of Salford.
All take place in our very comfortable convent Guest House overlooking Morecambe Bay and a short drive from Lake Windermere. All our guests are very welcome to share in daily Mass and sung Office with our Community of Augustinian Sisters. There will also be space for private prayer, time for socialising and an opportunity to see the local area.
