Share the Journey: Walking with migrants and refugees
Cardinal Luis Tagle, Archbishop of Manila and President of Caritas Internationalis, invites communities of citizens all over the world to fight hatred and fear with a one million kilometre worldwide march of solidarity, alongside migrants and refugees.
The pilgrimage is an initiative of the migration awareness campaign titled 'Share the Journey'.
"The big challenge in this time of harsh divisions" said Cardinal Tagle, "is to oppose a rhetoric of fear and hate with actions of love, kindness and mercy, such as the ones proposed in our Share the Journey campaign."
Cardinal Tagle will officially launch the Share the Journey global pilgrimage on Sunday, 21 October in Rome. Caritas organisations in Chile, New Zealand, Canada, the UK and the USA have already started to walk with migrants and refugees. Many others are planning pilgrimages. There are national Caritas organisations in over 160 countries worldwide.
The campaign, promoted by Caritas Internationalis, was launched by Pope Francis on 27 September 2017 and lasts two years. Share the Journey aims to bring communities closer together with migrants and refugees by organising spaces and opportunities for the 'culture of encounter. A first step to build more united and inclusive societies.'
