Cardinal Luis Antonio (Chito) Tagle

Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, former Archbishop of Manila, now Prefect of the Vatican Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples has sent a video message to Filipino seafarers. The video message was organised by Fr Bruno Ciceri, Director of Stella Maris International.

In his message the Cardinal sends Easter greetings and reassures all seafarers his support and prayers for them and their families during these uncertain times.

See an English translation of Cardinal Tagle's message here: "Our beloved brothers and sisters who are seafarers, including all those in the fishing industry. I am Cardinal Chito Tagle, a Filipino like you. I am currently assigned here in Rome.

"And it's Easter time, that is why, Happy Easter. I know that even if there is no Coronavirus, your life always faces dangers, storms, lack of certainty. However, perhaps you are more worried now because there are a lot of places that do not allow entry of people. Your families also seem to be also in prison. You are not alone. We are with you in your worries, in your fears, in your apprehensions. We are one family now. And if you feel a day that you are alone, think that in the hands of God and in our fraternity/solidarity/helping one another (pagdadamayan), we are one: one world, one family. That is why we are including you in our prayers, including your loved ones.

Please also pray for us. Let us be one: one family, one love, only one God the Father.

Happy Easter to you all. And to our brothers who are not Christians, who are not Catholics, we are also greeting you, to our brothers who are in the Islamic faith, a blessed Ramadan to you also.

Let us all be one in acknowledging God. God bless you."
