Scotland Awakening
A Scottish retreat centre has launched a prayer campaign in the lead-up to Pentecost - inspired by the famous Isle of Lewis Revival that began in 1949. The group of young Catholics from Craig Lodge said: "We've called it Scotland Awakening and very simply it's a call to pray over the nine days to Pentecost for a new outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Scotland."
"The Lewis Revival saw people flocking to church and turning back to God. The hope of Scotland Awakening is that the whole nation would experience renewal through the power of the Holy Spirit.
"At the first Pentecost the disciples and Mary were in a kind of lockdown situation. They spent nine days in a room, praying and waiting. Then the Holy Spirit came and everything changed for them."
Scotland Awakening are inviting families and households, church groups and online communities of all Christian denominations, to join together in prayer for a new Revival of Scotland. Their idea was welcomed by Nicky Gumbel, the founder of the Alpha Course, who has recorded a prayer for the campaign.
