The Grand Master of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of St George, HRH Prince Charles of Bourbon Two Sicilies, Duke of Castro, has expressed his thanks and appreciation to members of the British and Irish Delegation for their generous support and donations to the Order's Grand Magistry Covid-19 appeal.
More than €232,368 has been raised in recent weeks for hospitals and health units across nine Italian regions. Donations have included Pugliese Ciaccio Hospital in Catanzaro (€30,000), the donation of ventilators to the Civic Hospital in Partinico, the Cannizzaro Hospital of Catania and the Saint Martha and St Venera Hospital in Acireale in Sicily (€52,000).
A €50,000 donation has been made towards a new intensive care unit at the Cotugno Hospital - an institution specialising in combating infectious diseases in Naples. Further donations have been sent to the Regional Health Authority in Molise (€10,363), the Domus Salutis institution in Brescia (€15,000), the 'Monsignor Di Liegro' Diagnostic Centre in Gaeta (€15,000), the Local Health Unit of Lanciano Vasto e Chieti, (€15,000), the San Carlo Hospital in Potenza, (€15,000) the Local Health Authority of Bari (€15,000) and the Local Health Authority of Foggia, (€15,000).
The Duke of Castro said in his message to members worldwide membership as the appeal was brought to its close: "I would like to thank you from the heart for supporting the initiative that was launched to help Italian health units with fewer resources in the fight against Covid-19.
"We had launched this fundraising with the belief that each euro would have represented a glimmer of hope and a small drop of life in the fight against the pandemic; thanks to your contribution we have been able to report that donations to 12 institutions in nine different Italian regions have benefited from your support.
"As you will notice, we have focused on diversified donations that fully meet real needs, providing financial or material assistance through the purchase of medical equipment, contributing to the increase of the intensive care units as well as the creation of an information centre for the follow-up of the infection and a new diagnostic centre, as well as a series of important supplies of masks and personal protection devices, in full compliance with the institutions' needs and requests: all this was carried out in order to make the support that originated from individual donations even more effective.
"Everything we did was possible thanks to the support of all those who contributed, as you did, to this fundraising and its spread. We have to face many different challenges and the solidarity you have shown allows us to deal with them. Together, we can be useful to others and that is the meaning of the mission that I had accomplished with your help.
"I would therefore like to thank you personally and on behalf of the Constantinian Order, and in the hope of collaborating again in new upcoming projects."
Anthony Bailey, Delegate in Great Britain and Ireland, said: "As Delegate in Great Britain and Ireland may I echo the Grand Master's appreciation to all those that have supported this appeal. I am only too aware that such generosity comes on top of the support many of you continue to give as volunteers or donors for other COVID-19 related related causes across Great Britain and the island of Ireland. So congratulations and continue to stay safe as we all commence what we hope will be final phases of lockdown."
