Vatican astronomer speaks about Christmas Star - video (updated)
The planets Jupiter and Saturn were set to cross paths on Monday night, appearing to the naked eye - weather permitting - as a very bright light. The timing of this 'great conjunction' has caused some to suggest it may have been the source of the Star of Bethlehem 2,000 years ago. The planets were moving closer together each night and reached their closest point on 21 December.
Director of the Vatican Observatory Brother Guy Consolmagno SJ, gave a talk about this rare stellar event at Edinburgh Jesuit Centre on Tuesday, December 22, 2020.
