God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.
Reflection on the Painting
We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you.
Because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world.
Veronica had followed you faithfully, Jesus. Here she is gently wiping the sweat and blood from Your face. Neither the violence of the soldiers nor the mocking of the crowds deterred Veronica from coming close to you. She was determined, with plenty of resolve. I can see how distraught she is, yet so humble and grateful You let her perform this tender act of womanly kindness.
I can see how in her act of love, she impressed the true image of Your face deep into her heart.
Help me also to carry the image of You, Christ, wherever I go. Help me to see Your true image in all the people I meet.
Our Father, who art in heaven…
Hail Mary, full of grace…
Glory Be to the Father and to the Son…
(Normal Gospel reading for the day: Luke 1: 26-38)
