27th March 2021 - Luke. 23:28-31
Jesus turning to them said, "Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. For behold, the days are coming when they will say, 'Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never gave suck!' Then they will begin to say to the mountains, 'Fall on us'; and to the hills, 'Cover us'. For if they do this when the wood is green, what will happen when it is dry?"
Reflection on the Drawing
We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you.
Because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world.
There You are, Lord. Your body is pale, You have lost so much blood. I see You turn to the women of Jerusalem and give them Your time, Your attention and Your presence in the midst of all Your suffering.
Even in these last moments of Your life, You constantly give to others. You have never stopped teaching and proclaiming the word of God. Even now, a few moments before You, as our Shepherd, are being led to the slaughter like a lamb, You still stop, teach and give Yourself to others.
Lord, please let your display of loving witness to the women of Jerusalem help me proclaim the Good News too, to my own dying breath. Sometimes in our highly secularised world it seems that all hope is lost and I can feel battered in my discipleship. As I look to You now addressing the women, please look at me as well, and guide me as I continue my own journey…
Our Father, who art in heaven…
Hail Mary, full of grace…
Glory Be to the Father and to the Son…
(Normal Gospel reading for the day: John 11:45-56)
