They crucified him, and with him two others, one on either side, and Jesus between them. Pilate also wrote a title and put it on the cross; it read: "Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews".

Reflection on the Painting

We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you.
Because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world.

As the soldiers are cruelly stretching Your legs, ready for the final nail to go through Your body, You are looking at me. I see Your agony, but I also witness Your resolve.

Again, I can see You looking at me. You know how I cannot stop myself asking why God, who became human, let Himself be tortured and nailed to a cross? You taught me, Jesus, that it was for love. Your Law of Love led You to give Your own life for me.

I also see the little dog on Golgotha staring at the skull, symbolic of faithful companionship even unto death. Help me be faithful to You. I know You ask of me nothing more than that: to be faithful and to love.

Our Father, who art in heaven…

Hail Mary, full of grace…

Glory Be to the Father and to the Son…

(Normal Gospel reading for the day: John 13: 21- 38)
