Bishop Barron releases Rosary book and video series
Bishop Barron's Word on Fire Catholic Ministries has released a book and YouTube video series about the Rosary.
'The Rosary with Bishop Robert Barron' invites readers to join Bishop Barron in praying this traditional Catholic devotion loved by so many popes and saints. After a brief introduction to the Rosary by Pope St John Paul II and a walkthrough of its various prayers, the book takes the reader through each set of the Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious, and Luminous Mysteries with colour artwork and reflections from Bishop Barron. In an afterword Matt Nelson, the Assistant Director of the Word on Fire Institute, reflects on the figure of Mary and her role as mother of Christians. If you are resident in the USA, the book comes with a rosary handmade in Jerusalem from rope and olive-wood beads.
The book has been released alongside a video series which can be found on YouTube, in which Bishop Barron-accompanied by background music and images relating to each Mystery-guides viewers through the Rosary. The video series also includes a brief reflection from Bishop Barron on why praying the Rosary is important. "The Rosary-a concretizing, quieting, savouring prayer-has enormous spiritual power," Bishop Barron explains. "And it therefore has enormous social and evangelical power."
A downloadable audio version can be found on Google Podcasts, Apple Podcasts, and Spotify.
Maria Carvalho, who blogs at arepentantcatholic.com, has found the video series very helpful in her prayer life:
"I never liked to say the rosary by myself. I have done so for different novenas, but I never actually liked it. Alone, my mind would wander as I autopiloted the rosary out of a sense of duty to the novena. The game changer was stumbling across the YouTube videos of Bishop Barron guiding us through the Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious and Luminous mysteries. Bishop Barron provides reflections on each mystery, accompanied by stunning paintings illustrating the mystery. These meditations visually, mentally, and spiritually engage me on the profound truth - so subversive and so contrary to the logos of the world - that I cannot help but be drawn in."
She adds: "Reflecting on the question Bishop Barron asks before saying the decade, I actually do meditate on the mystery as I say the ten Hail Marys."
