Remember those Amazonian statues thrown into the Tiber?
Two years ago, several indigenous statues which had been brought to Rome for the Synod of Bishops for the Amazon region, were stolen from a church by a young man and thrown into the River Tiber.
The incident was filmed and posted on some Catholic social media. The 'pachamama' figures were later retrieved by the Carabinieri.
In a piece called 'A Catholic moral panic, two years on ' in Where Peter Is', Mike Lewis looks back on this incident.
Endorsing the article Papal biographer Austen Ivereigh has tweeted: 'Terrific wide-angled look-back to the Amazonian Synod, when combatting post-truth @ewtn (etc) hysteria launched the mission of Where Peter Is. Great quotes from @ctrlamb @MichaelSWinter @Barbara_Fraser et al.'
