World AIDS Day Mass, Prayers and Vigils
World AIDS Day is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, to show support for people living with HIV, and to commemorate those who have died from an AIDS-related illness. Founded in 1988, it was the first ever global health day.
London's annual World AIDS Mass will take place at Farm Street Jesuit Church, 114 Mount Street, Mayfair, W1K 3AH, on Wednesday, 1 December at 6pm. The theme is Equal Care - Listening to Every Voice. The celebrant will be Monsignor Martin Hayes, Vicar-General - Westminster Diocese. The Mass will be followed by refreshments in the Parish's Arrupe Hall.
Farm Street Masses are live-streamed but not recorded - www.farmstreet.org.uk/livestream
Online vigils
There will also be online vigils, organised by CAPS.
The 15 minute vigils will be on Zoom at 8am, 1pm, and 6pm GMT - a time gather together online in prayer and reflection as we mark 40 years since the first AIDS diagnosis.
We will commemorate the millions of lives lost to HIV, celebrate those living well and pray for those struggling to get treatment.
The vigils will also include a reflection from Positive Faith, a resource on HIV and the Christian faith, produced by Catholics For AIDS Prevention and Support in association with churches from several traditions.
Join at 8am, 1pm or 6pm on Wednesday 1 December 2021, follow this Zoom link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/88981944861#success
On Saturday 4 December, PositiveFaith/CAPS will celebrate a World AIDS Day Service with friends from around the world. Please join us as we discuss 40 Years of the HIV Pandemic: Struggle, Learning and Hope, pray for those who are abandoned, and remember those who have died.
With contributions from Dr John Falcone, Michael J. O'Loughlin, author of Hidden Mercy: AIDS, Catholics, and the Untold Stories of Compassion, Rev Dr Evie Vernon-O'Brien, Abigail Chakanyuka, Dr Vincent Manning, and other guests, this year's service promises to be as interesting as it will be prayerful and spiritually uplifting.
