Green Christian New Year Resolutions
Have you considered adopting a vegan lifestyle?
This is one of the suggestions in a list of New Year resolutions offered by Green Christian.
Carbon emissions caused by the farming of animals, poultry and fish for food are calculated as contributing at least 14.5% of world-wide CO2 total. Being vegan is a way of living which seeks to exclude as far as possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of and cruelty to animals for food, clothing or any other purpose. Vegans avoid meat, fish, shellfish, insects, dairy, eggs and honey as well as products tested on animals, and products such as leather which is only available because an animal has been killed.
Or what about resolving to divest your bank, savings and pension funds from fossil fuels?
Questions around how we use, share and act justly with money are found throughout the Bible. Resources are available to help make connections between money, faith and a transition to sustainable development.
What about supporting the Climate and Ecological Emergency Bill?
The Bill calls for the UK to make and enact a serious plan. This means dealing with the UK's real fair share of emissions so that the UK's entire carbon footprint - in the UK and overseas - is taken into account when calculating the carbon footprint. It also calls for the protection and conservation of nature at home and overseas along supply chains, recognising the damage caused through the goods we consume in the UK.
Or work with your MP on Climate Change.
Meeting net zero targets is fundamentally about transitioning to low carbon infrastructure. Many decisions around new and existing infrastructure - such as buildings, roads and utilities - are made at the local level. If targets are to be met it is essential that the public holds local politicians accountable, as well as providing them with a mandate to take decisive action.
Meeting an MP can sound intimidating, but it can be as simple as sending a letter and having a 20-minute meeting.
