Leicester: Blessing of Saint Colette

Saint Colette

Saint Colette

The annual Blessing of St Colette, was the last event of the Poor Clare Colettines in Nottingham before the big lockdowns. Now, two years on, they are celebrating this event in Leicester. At 10am on 5 February, the Blessing of St Colette will take place at St Edward's Aylestone, Leicester.

This simple prayer service is open to any who would like to attend.

During her life, St Colette, a 15th Century Poor Clare, was famed for her prayers for children - especially those very much wanted or on the way. The Annual Blessing in her honour, with Sisters, is a happy occasion where usually, families bring their children and give thanks for their arrival. Its also an opportunity to receive a blessing with a relic of St Colette's veil which she once wrapped round a dead child that the Lord subsequently restored to life.

The Poor Clare Colettines are based at St Edward the Confessor, 633 Aylestone Rd, Aylestone, Leicester LE2 8TF
