Glasgow: Saving St Mungo Museum
After nearly two years, St Mungo Museum of Religious Life and Art remains closed to the public and its future is hanging in the balance.
St Mungo's is the only museum of its kind in the UK. It was established in 1993 with support from Glasgow's diverse faith communities to "promote mutual understanding and respect between people of different faiths and none". Over the years it has fulfilled this mission, working to promote good relations and to challenge discrimination.
Beloved by the people of Glasgow, St Mungo's also has an outstanding international reputation and has helped to inspire the creation of other museums of religion and related initiatives all over the world.
The link below is to a short video - an edited recording of an event exploring the significance of St Mungo's, with speakers from the Museum of World Religions in Taiwan and the House of Religions in Hanover, an academic expert in 'Houses of Religion' from the University of Salzburg, and locals from Glasgow's faith communities who were involved in the museum's creation.
Saving St Mungo's matters.
