Kent: Annual pilgrimage to Shrine of Our Lady of Hartley
The annual pilgrimage to Shrine of Our Lady of Hartley will take place in the beautiful thatched roof church of St Francis de Sales at Hartley in Kent, on Saturday 7 May at 3.30pm.
The day will include hymns and prayers to Our Lady and ends with a time of Eucharistic Adoration, followed by the Parish Mass starting at 5.30pm.
There will be refreshments served after Mass, and self service tea and coffee for those who arrive early.
Pope Benedict XV approved the new title of 'Our Lady of Hartley' in May 1921. He was impressed by the rapid development of the Oratory of St Francis de Sales since it was set up in 1913, and by the welcome given to World War One refugees. He indicated the shrine's status as a Major Marian shrine by attaching a Plenary Indulgence for those who visit and pray for peace among European nations - an intention which remains valid today.
