The Catholic Union held its annual Mass and evening reception for supporters of its St Thomas More Circle yesterday.

The event took place at St Mary's, Cadogan Street, in Chelsea, not far from the home of St Thomas More - the Catholic Union's Patron Saint. It was the first time in two years that supporters of the St Thomas More Circle had been able to meet in person on account of Covid restrictions.

The St Thomas More Circle of donors was launched by the Catholic Union in January 2019 to support and grow the work of Union.

During his homily at the Mass, parish priest Fr Shaun Middleton commended the work of the Catholic Union. He said: "The Catholic Union stands in the public square sowing seeds of goodness. This work is important and vital for our society."

Rob Flello, Chairman of the Catholic Union, addressed Catholic Union supporters and other invited guests from Catholic organisations and the media and told them of the Union's plans for expansion and for fundraising to make those plans possible. Nigel Parker, Director, and James Somerville-Meikle, Head of Public Affairs, also spoke.

The Union's next in person event will be the Summer Gathering, which this year takes place at St Mary's College, Oscott, near Birmingham on Saturday 23 July.

Nigel Parker, Director of the Catholic Union, commented: "It was a joy to be able to meet in person and to thank the Benefactors and Supporters of our St Thomas More Circle whose generous financial support has made possible the great progress we have made in recent years. We plan to continue growing so that we can, in Fr Shaun's words, 'sow more seeds of goodness' in our society."
